Disappointed in these celebs for their mute stand on JNU, CAA and other issues, Twitterati has demanded a newer version featuring those who actually raised their voice
The violence at JNU on Sunday night sparked outrage across the nation and hundreds of people from different parts of the country hit the streets, protesting against the brutal attack. People once again looked up to famous personalities- Bollywood biggies such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, as well as sports stars Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar- to raise their voice against the violence. However, much to people’s disappointment, save a few Bollywood celebs such as Swara Bhasker, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajkummar Rao and others, the rest chose to maintain their silence.
Time and again, these famous celebrities have come under fire for not speaking when it counts, for not using their power and influence when it matters. Not just JNU, even during protests against CAA, #ShameOnBollywood was trending, for the B-town celebs’ mute stand. Now, an old video starring various famous personalities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Abhishek Bachchan, Tabu and many others proudly saying ‘Main Hindustani’ has gone viral on Twitter. It didn’t go unnoticed that those who featured in the video are actually the ones who are silent now. Many pointed out that only Shabana Azmi and Aparna Sen kept their word.
